Informations about TAIEX

The TAIEX project followed the proposal of the White paper "Preparation of the Associated Countries of Central and Eastern Europe for Integration into the Internal Market of the Union", from 1995, the "Technical Assistance Information Exchange Office", (TAIEX), was set up in January 1996 to provide the Associated Countries of Central and Eastern Europe (ACs) with technical assistance on approximation of legislation.

The list of beneficiary countries has been extended to cover 13 Candidate Countries (CCs) for EU membership, namely: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta and Turkey.

The scope of TAIEX assistance covered all aspects of EU legislation, i.e. the entire Community Acquis which contained more than 80.000 pages of legal texts divided into 31 chapters. TAIEX provided technical assistance to all levels of public and semi-public administrations, as well as to Private Sector Associations.
